LOCAL: CANTINA, LX FACTORY
PELAS 18:3O
In sequence of the lessons taught by José Gil, within the course of PEPCC, the subjects of the first tertúlia will reference the themes launched this seminar, that we hope to be sprouted for good conversation.
José Gil, 1st class:
Contemporary time
- Contemporary time and present ( todays time)
- Contemporary time as virtual
- virtuals, particals or "éfèmeres"
- the difficulty of accepting subconcious comunication ( telepathy vs reason)
- the concept of devir : a special devir, the woman-devir.
The main issues about our time
- The Modernism vs our time
- Time of disbelief
- Disconnected time
- Exclusion of slowness
How did this happen to our time?
1. Capitalism
-exploration of the imaterial work; creativity
2. Images migration
-energetically intensive planes vs images that circulate on it without content
-intensity of links and emptiness of bodys
-modernism: there was a commom enemy , and so a creation of difference.
- are there any trends in todays art? ( no criteria to analyse what is exposed)
3. The occultation of death
- the will to erase the death and funeral rituals.
-disgard toward the elderly
José Gil, 2nd class:
Question: What happened to the body and its representations from modernism until now?
The body
The body is a resevoir of meaning but not necessarily a reservoir of significations. How to approach then his meaning?
Modernism
- 2 main tendencies: figurative art and abstract art
- the deconstruction of the mimetic figure (the principle of similarity wih reality was broken)
- appearence of self-referenced art (ex. Malvitch): the referent is no longer the nature, but it's created a new language that is sustained by itself
- what are the criterias to evaluate this art?
- parallelism with what happened in dance (ex. Cunningham)

The disappearance of the body
-so, for where it goes?
-characteristics of this new body
-the aesthetics of modernism as the aesthetics of difference.
José Gil, 3rd class
Contemporary art
-attraction for the irrational, mystery, occultism, surrealism, 4th dimension…
-body non-integrated in a totality but unified
-obsession of the body (nudity, interior, organs)
-interest for the body self-referenced and not for the relation of the body with the world
-tendencies to monstrosity ( devir-animal)
-fascination for the obscene, for the interior of bodies and their decomposition
-search for a new body, another body (proteases, cyborgs, new technologies…)
-search for the real body, even not knowing what it is.
